We're very excited to introduce all the amazing artists and makers who are part of this year's Newbridge Arts Trail (20-21 May 2023).

This year, Paulo is showing digital prints which combine hand-drawn ink drawings with digital colour and manipulation to produce repeated patterns.

The range of work is called Flower Power and each themed piece of work is arranged to become an imaginary flower.

Izzy Bez-Cryer

Izzy Bez-Cryer is an artist currently living and working in Bath. They are currently creating a series of bold, detailed ‘worms’. Within these paintings. they aim to convey looming emotions (like nostalgia, dread and peace) which suffuse everyday life, suspending them within the ‘worms’ and their environments.

Kate is a needle and wet felt artist. She likes to take inspiration from nature and create a range of items. These include small stand-alone pieces, embellished frames and large pictures combining wet felt, needle felt, machine and hand embroidery.

She is also a member of the International Feltmakers Association.

Trained in fine art at City of Bath College, Penny works in oils and acrylics. Her commissions have included portraits, still life and landscapes.

Some of her paintings tell a story or invite reflection, like her series of refugee portraits or the triptych commissioned by Yellowstone Theological Institute, USA.

Painting

Nigel most often paints land or seascapes. Recently he also completed a series of the bridges of Bath in acrylic and mixed media.

Underpinning her work is a passion for experimentation, texture and colour which finds expression in this versatile and exciting medium.

Painting and Linocut Prints

Ann’s painting is figurative, often featuring people at work or play. She tries to tell stories, capture atmosphere or suggest relationships.

Working mainly in acrylic, she is attracted by contrasts in light and texture. She likes experimenting with processes or media and finds unexpected results are often the most exciting.

Philip is a Creative Director who, in his spare time, designs fonts and takes photos. This year-long project has been a personal exploration of the letters of the alphabet and the numbers 0-9.

Proceeds from selling this work will be donated to an organisation for refugees of the Ukraine war here in the UK.

Janice is a colourist painting in oils and acrylics. She has exhibited in London, Bristol, Birmingham and Bath, including the BSA Open exhibition 2022.

She enjoys painting a range of subjects including still life and landscapes.

Sarah’s work focuses on memory, false and fragmenting with time.

She experiments mainly in print and photography, using repeating images from found negatives as well as alternative photographic techniques.

Maria makes creative journals and bespoke sketchbooks from scratch, with the aim of giving the user a really special experience every time they go to make a sketch or jot down a thought.

In her painting work, she enjoys capturing the atmosphere of places, such as our beautiful Bath.

Chris uses his own photos to create digital kaleidoscopic prints. He has developed a technique using his laptop to mirror, multiply and layer sections of photographs to produce symmetrical images.

Framed giclee prints and those on canvas are professionally printed. Unframed prints are printed on matte photographic paper, treated with a protective coating to prevent fading.

Tom is interested in the generation of images and how they communicate something words cannot. His practice explores reflections of unconscious processes.

Recently, he has been keeping a small journal of drawings with ink or charcoal, from places and occasions. This has led his practice while living in Bristol.

Most of the inspiration for her seascapes comes from the coastlines of Cornwall and Devon, although she has recently started exploring the wide open landscape of Norfolk.

Working from home, Hilary uses watercolours to capture the intricacies and beauty of birds, insects, plants and landscapes around me.

As well as prints and cards, a request for a honey bee cushion led to her original paintings being used as the basis for printed textiles for table linens, storage nests, cushions, lampshades.

A newcomer to Bath, Laura loves living in an inspiring city so close to beautiful countryside.

She paints textured and abstract canvases using acrylics and mixed media.

She also works on paper, drawing from life and producing prints and collages. Strong contrasts and colour harmonies are usually her main focus.
